Reform Monitoring Group gathers on European Day

ANKARA
The 29th meeting of the Reform Monitoring Group will take place on May 9, also known as Europe Day, nearly one year after the last meeting on June 15, 2013.

The event will be held under the auspices of Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu with the justice minister and interior minister also taking part in the event.

In a written statement on May 8, prior to Europe Day, Çavuşoğlu said Turkey is determined continue to push the agenda of full membership into the EU despite “various obstacles including prejudices and political blockades.”

“Our government continues to take steps to consolidate democracy and further strengthen the fundamental rights and freedoms of our citizens even in the atmosphere of the upcoming elections,” Çavuşoğlu said.

“With the words of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the EU accession process is the most significant modernization project after the proclamation of the Republic,” he added.
