Main opposition leader to visit London at invitation of leading debate club
AA PhotoMain opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will pay a visit to the British capital next month at the invitation of Oxford University’s historic debating society.
Kılıçdaroğlu, who will depart from Istanbul for London on May 15, will join students at the Oxford Union on May 16 and deliver a speech there, his party said in a written statement released on May 9.
As of May 17, the CHP leader will hold a breakfast meeting with lawmakers from Britain’s Labour Party, representatives of civil society organizations and figures from the business world. Later in the day, he will deliver a conference at a gathering with Turkish citizens before departing for Turkey.
CHP Deputy Chair Faruk Loğoğlu and the party’s coordinator for relations abroad, Durdu Özbolat, will accompany Kılıçdaroğlu on the visit.
The Oxford Union, having been established for almost two centuries, is widely considered the world’s most prestigious debating society.
Back in February 2013, Kılıçdaroğlu held various contacts in London during a visit at the invitation of the Labour Party.
