President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for continued diplomacy between the United States and Iran during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said.
The leaders discussed Türkiye-U.S. relations and regional and global issues.
Erdoğan said negotiations between Washington and Tehran should continue and that Türkiye would maintain its support for peace efforts.
He said the joint defense agreement signed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan demonstrated a firm commitment to regional stability and security.
On Gaza, Erdoğan said Israeli actions targeting Palestinians had increased as efforts focused on moving the peace process into its second phase.
Türkiye would continue supporting lasting peace and Gaza’s reconstruction, he added.
Separately on Aug. 17, Erdoğan spoke with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and congratulated him on taking office.
The two leaders discussed bilateral ties and regional and global developments.
Erdoğan said cooperation had advanced, particularly in the defense industry, and pointed to the Strategic Partnership Framework and the Security and Defense Partnership signed by the two countries.
He said Ankara and London would continue working to expand bilateral trade and meet their investment targets.
