“Jam Session: America’s Jazz Ambassadors Embrace the World,” a photography exhibit documenting the travels of America’s greatest jazz musicians on U.S. Department of State-sponsored tours from the 1950s through the 1970s, is now open to the public at the Borusan Müzik Evi in Istanbul.

The exhibit features candid photographs of jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and many more performing and interacting with ordinary people in Turkey and countries around the world.

The curator of the exhibition, Curtis Sandberg of Meridian International Center said the photos had traveled through 78 cities in 35 countries in the last three years and Istanbul was the 79th city.

Today, Sandberg will give a talk related to the exhibition at the same venue at 11 a.m. U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Francis J. Ricciardone will also make a speech at the event.
