Spain judge Garzon convicted in wiretapping trial

Spain's high court convicted top judge Baltasar Garzon today in an illegal wiretapping case and suspended him from the legal profession for 11 years, a court official said.

Garzon, 56, who won international renown by trying to extradite Chile's former dictator Augusto Pinochet, was found guilty of ordering illegal recordings of conversations between suspects in a corruption case and their lawyers.
