Turkish contactors have not undertaken any projects in Egypt in the last two years due to the political issues in the country but would be willing to participate in the country’s reconstruction process, a leading sector representative has said.

“There is no question that Turkish contractors haven’t been affected by the latest developments in Egypt. However, if any role will be given to them for the reconstruction of Egypt in the new era, I believe they would do their job best,” said Şükrü Koçoğlu, the head of the Turkish Construction Employers’ Union (İNTES).

Turkish contractors completed 26 projects worth around $982 million in total until 2011 in Egypt, according to figures provided by Koçoğlu.

“In 2011, all projects were completed and no Turkish contractor undertook a project or got business in Egypt because of the disorder and problems in the country,” he said.
