Transport Minister Feridun Bilgin has said preparation works are ongoing for a new metro line between the Kaynarca district on Istanbul’s Asian side and Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

A Gülermak-YSE consortium won the tender to construct the line, Bilgin stated, adding that the land has been officially submitted to the consortium to start construction works.

The 7.4 km-long new metro line will have four stations and is scheduled to be completed in March 2018, the minister added.

The line will also be connected to the existing line on the Asian side of Istanbul between Kadıköy and Kartal.

Upon completion, it will take 13 minutes to go from the airport to Kaynarca, 46 minutes to Kadıköy, and around one hour to Yenikapı on the European side, Bilgin stated.
