Former US president George W. Bush's daughter Jenna announced on live TV Wednesday that she was pregnant with her first child.

Jenna Bush Hager, 31, made the announcement on the NBC 'Today' morning show where she has been a correspondent since 2009.

"I'm nervous and so excited to say that Henry and I are pregnant -- or I'm pregnant!" Hager gushed. "We're so excited and obviously nervous about it." Her husband, Henry Hager, then walked in with a bouquet of white flowers for his wife.

The ex-president, who left office in January 2009, called into the show to say that he was "fired up" about the news, while her mother, former first lady Laura Bush, declared that she was "absolutely thrilled." The baby is due in the spring and will be their first grandchild.

The former "first daughter" wed Hager, a former White House aide and the son of a former Virginia lieutenant governor, at her father's 1,600-acre (650-hectare) Prairie Chapel Ranch in Texas in May 2008. Her twin sister Barbara was her maid of honor.
