As of the end of June, Türkiye’s external assets decreased by 1.7 percent compared to the previous quarter to $404.0 billion, official data showed on Aug. 20.

The country’s liabilities against non-residents recorded $806.7 billion, indicating an increase of 3 percent, said the Central Bank.

Türkiye’s net International Investment Position (IIP) was minus $402.6 billion as of June 2026. It was minus $372 billion in the previous quarter.

The difference between total financial assets and total financial liabilities is the net IIP.
Under the asset items, direct investment increased by 3.2 percent to $81.2 billion, portfolio investments decreased by 11 percent to $9.1 billion and other investment items fell by 2.7 percent to $163.6 billion, according to the data.

Over the same period, the Central Bank’s reserve assets decreased by 2.2 percent to $147.4 billion.

“Among the sub-items under liabilities - portfolio investment, equities and investment fund shares recorded $49.7 billion by increasing 14.6 percent compared to the previous quarter,” the bank said.

The direct investments item decreased by 0.6 percent to $231.5 billion, portfolio investment increased by 8.8 percent to $154.8 billion and other investment increased by 2.9 percent to $413.4 billion, according to the bank.
