Türkiye’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined by 0.3 percentage points from the previous quarter to 7.9 percent in the April-June period, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said on Aug. 19.
The figure was the lowest quarterly rate in the data series dating back to 2005.
The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over fell by 84,000 to 2.8 million. The unemployment rate was 6.7 percent among men and 10.3 percent among women.
Employment increased by 155,000 to 32.48 million, lifting the employment rate by 0.1 percentage points to 48.5 percent. The rate stood at 65.8 percent for men and 31.6 percent for women.
The labor force expanded by 71,000 to 35.28 million, while the participation rate edged down by 0.1 points to 52.7 percent.
Youth unemployment, covering those aged 15 to 24, fell by 1 percentage point to 13.9 percent. The rate was 11 percent among young men and 19.3 percent among young women.
The composite labor underutilization rate, which also includes time-related underemployment and the potential labor force, declined by 0.2 percentage points to 29.9 percent.
