Turkish naval commandos staged a series of simulated security and rescue operations on the second day of Teknofest Blue Homeland at Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command.
Underwater Assault (SAT) and Underwater Defense (SAS) teams demonstrated responses to drifting mines, unmanned vessels, hostage-taking and the seizure of a commercial ship.
In one scenario, personnel jumped from a helicopter into the sea to neutralize a drifting mine, an unmanned surface vessel and other suspicious objects.
A SAT team later approached the shore in fast assault boats to rescue a hostage held by a simulated armed assailant.
Divers also carried out a covert harbor-infiltration drill involving underwater infrastructure and cables before reaching shore and unfurling a Turkish flag.
The demonstration ended with commandos boarding and retaking a commercial vessel seized by simulated hostile forces.
The multipurpose amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu was among the naval platforms opened to visitors and drew long queues during the day.
Flight displays over Gölcük included SH-70 Seahawk and AH-1W Super Cobra helicopters, a CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft and Bayraktar TB2, TB3 and Akıncı unmanned aircraft.
Defense companies, including Aselsan and Roketsan, also displayed maritime and underwater systems at the event.
Teknofest Blue Homeland, which runs through Aug. 23, features naval platforms, defense technologies and competitions involving unmanned surface and underwater vehicles.
