Turkish PM gathers emergency meeting on Syria crisis

A three-hour-long emergency meeting on recent developments on the Turkey-Syria border was held at Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's office earlier today.

Prominent Turkish civil servants and ministers were present at the meeting, including Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Özel and Turkish Intelligence Service head Hakan Fidan.

Interior Minister Muammer Güler, Deputy Prime Minister Beşir Atalay, Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz and Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin also attended the summit.

The meeting came after Syrian Kurdish fighters affiliated to the Democratic Union Party (PYD), took control of the towns of Tel Abyad and Ras al-Ayn along the border, forcing out al-Qaeda-linked militants in clashes that killed one Turkish citizen last week in the Turkish border town of Ceylanpınar.
