Turkish Airlines plane on way home home after being stuck in France's Nice for 19 hours
ISTANBULA Turkish Airlines plane has departed for Istanbul after being grounded in France for 19 hours due to an engine problem.
The plane took off from Nice around 1 a.m. today as the technical problems have been solved.
The THY plane was supposed take off at 6.20 p.m. on Sept. 29 from Nice to Istanbul, but its electrical equipment broke down.
The plane’s 175 passengers have been moved to a hotel, after being kept at the airport for four hours.
A Turkish Airlines source told daily Hürriyet that the plane couldn’t take off due to weather condition problems at first but afterward it emerged that the plane had suffered a technical problem.
The airline initially announced a one and a half hour delay and informed passengers, but kept them waiting on the jet bridge for around 50 minutes, which caused the tension to heighten between passengers and the staff.
As the confrontation escalated, French authorities stepped in and enabled the passengers re-enter into the country and four hours later they were put into a hotel. In the meantime, there weren’t any THY officials available at the counter.
