The groundbreaking ceremony for the country’s second largest dam at Silvan in the province of Diyarbakır will be held on May 4. Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Agriculture Minister Mehdi Eker, Forest and Waterworks Minister Dr. Veysel Eroğlu, Development Minister Cevdet Yılmaz and Diyarbakır Mayor Mustafa Toprak are expected to attend the ceremony.

Silvan, the second largest dam after the Atatürk Dam, will create 318,000 jobs in the region and is expected to be completed in five years. It will have the power of a 160-megawatt hydroelectric plant. The dam is expected to contribute 900 million Turkish Liras annually to the country’s economy.
