Second Aydın Gün Award presented

The IKSV has presented the second Aydın Gün Encouragement Award to the young cellist Cansın Kara.

The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) has presented the second Aydın Gün Encouragement Award to the young cellist Cansın Kara.

Kara was also the jury’s choice among the cellists in the 41st Istanbul Music Festival’s “Festival Presents its Young Soloist” project, and he also gave a concert in the festival in June 2013.

Dedicated to the estimable memory of Aydın Gün, who was a pioneering figure in the Turkish opera scene and a founding member of the IKSV, the award is given to a different young Turkish musician every year.

Gün was one of the most important artists in the development of opera in Turkey. Born in Adana in 1917, Gün was among the founders of the Istanbul and Ankara Operas. Gün received the European Council Culture Award and was recognized as a state artist in 1988. Gün died in 2007 at the age of 90.
