Turkish Airlines (THY) will move to the new airport on Dec. 31. That is what the statements indicate.
Atatürk Airport will keep its general aviation area. Two runways will be open for flights and aircraft hangars will continue to provide services. There are plans to turn parts of the terminal building into an aviation university. The cargo area will be moved to the new airport in only a year’s time.
Turkey lacks pilots and the situation has been getting worse. The number of airplanes has been rising but not the number of pilots. Thus, Turkish Airlines is launching a project to train 1,000 pilots each year.
