Museums Talks continue with Germany

ISTANBUL
Museums Talks continue with Germany Istanbul Modern’s “Museums Talk” series is set to host Germany as the guest of this year’s program following previous guests such as the United States and the United Kingdom.

The “Museums Talk” program aims to establish a new conversation platform between leading international museum directors and museum audiences in Turkey. In collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Istanbul, “Museums Talk: From Germany” has invited museum directors and curators in Germany to discuss the German models of museums and art institutions.

Max Hollein, the long-standing director of the Städel Museum, the Liebieghaus Sculpture Collection, and the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, will give a lecture on March 25 about the museum as an institution and its audiences.

The series will continue with talks by the director of Cologne’s Museum Ludwig, Yılmaz Dziewior, on April 22 and by Ellen Blumenstein of Berlin’s KW Institute for Contemporary Art on May 24 at Istanbul Modern.

In his lecture, Hollein will draw attention to the fact that museums have been in a process of continuous development over the years and that the museum public is a multifaceted group with varied expectations and levels of knowledge.

The program “Museums Talk: From Germany” will focus on key topics such as museum architecture and expansion projects, collecting and non-collecting institution models, curatorial practices, and new modes of programming, museum management and more.

The events, which will be free of charge, will be conducted in English together with simultaneous translation.
