Maalouf’s smooth sounds at Garajistanbul

İbrahim Maalouf, born in Lebanon and currently residing in France, is a unique talent on the quarter-tone trumpet. Born into a family of artists and intellectuals, he has been composing since a young age. While a student in Paris, he was awarded 15 different prizes in major trumpet competitions before going on to teach trumpet in Paris and at Kansas State University. His debut album, produced by his own label, Mis’ter Productions, was released in 2007. Maalouf has also contributed to albums by Vanessa Paradis and Vincent Delerm. His own compositions feature a heavy emphasis on classical and Eastern styles. He will perform tonight at 10 p.m. at Garajistanbul.
