Italy's new coalition government led by leftist Prime Minister Enrico Letta won a confidence vote in the upper house of parliament on Tuesday.

The MPs voted 233 in favour and 59 against the Letta government, formed after a two-month deadlock caused by inconclusive elections in February, said Senate speaker Laura Boldrini.
