The names of the best actresses and actors awarded in the festival in 50 years are written on the huge pot.

A huge pot created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Golden Orange Film Festival has been abandoned to be destroyed under the rain.

The pot, which is five-and-a-half meters in height and seven meters in diameter, was made by artisan Ahmet Taşhomcu. The names of the best actresses and actors awarded in the festival in 50 years are written on the pot. Nearly five tons of mud was used for the pot, which was completed in three months.

The pot would have been nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records, but the application was not made, although it was finished in January, it was not kiln-dried. Now it is being destroyed in a workshop.

Registration problem

Taşhomcu said the Antalya Foundation for Culture and Arts (AKSAV) asked him to create the pot large enough to be nominated for a Guinness World Record. He said Guinness representatives came to Antalya and unofficially registered the pot.

“Since it is not kiln-dried and the application has not been finished so far, the pot cannot be officially registered by the Guinness representatives. South Korea entered the Guinness Book of World Records with a 2.5-meter pot. This is the world’s biggest pot. It has been waiting in the workshop for eight months. I can’t break my own work,” he said. “This is why I abandoned it to rain.”

After the Nov. 14 local elections, when the mayoralty of Antalya switched hands, it had been unclear who would organize the festival. The new mayor, Menderes Türel, announced he would not work with AKSAV, which had organized the festival with the municipality. Türel claimed the foundation was in debt due to corruption. Later on, AKSAV was discharged.
