Golden Boll outlines lineup for short films

Organizers of the Mediterranean Short Film Competition of the upcoming 19th Golden Boll Film Festival have been announced.

Adana Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Zihni Aldırmaz said in a written statement that a total of 467 films had been submitted to the competition from many countries.

“Thirty-six films will compete in the fiction section while 13 films will compete in the experimental section,” he said, adding that there would be six films in the documentary section and another nine in the animation section.

“The jury is composed of Anaelle Bourguignon from the French Marseille Film Festival, Italian director and producer David Maria Putorti, Estonian animation film director Priit Tender, Greece’s Paola Starakis and Turkish actress Devin Özgür Çınar,” he said in the statement.

He said the best in each section would be awarded 10,000 Turkish Liras.

As for the National Student Film Competition, Aldırmaz said 10 films in the fiction category, nine films in the documentary category, five films in the animation category and six films in the experimental category had all been chosen to compete in the event, beating out over 150 other films.

Members of the Student Film Competition jury include art director Veli Kahraman, animation director Lamia Karaali, director Türkan Derya, producer and cinema writer Nadir Öperli and actress Nesrin Cavadzade.

The best film selected in all categories will be awarded 7,500 liras, while semi-finalist films will receive 500 liras for displaying. The students will also have the chance to meet professionals from both the domestic and international scene. They will also have the opportunity to interview and participate in activities after screening.

The festival will be organized in the southern province of Adana between Sept. 17 and 23.
