Gediz Elektrik privatized

ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency
A three-firm consortium won the tender for the privatization of Gediz Elektrik yesterday, the distribution company for İzmir and Manisa, with an offer of $1.23 billion.

The Elsan-Tümaş-Karaçay Joint Venture Group won the tender in its 5th round.

Speaking on the behalf of the consortium, Ceyhan Saldanlı, Board chairman of Bereket Energy, said they were an experienced group which could handle the burden. “Our aim is to provide the best service in the region and we will increase the investments, approximately double them,” Saldanlı said after the tender bid in Ankara.

‘Offer had been well thought through’

He also said there would be no financial problems in the future, adding that the offer had been well thought through and was affordable.

The tender came days after the privatization of Boğaziçi Elektrik (BEDAŞ), the distribution company for Istanbul’s European side, with an offer of $1.96 billion. The Cengiz-Kolin-Limak Joint Venture Group, which also won the tender for the electric distribution in the Mediterranean region for $546 million last month, won the tender on Dec. 14.
