Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon joined the ranks of Turkey’s Republican People’s Party (CHP) days after resigning from his Democrat Party (DP), according to Anadolu Agency.

Kocadon visited the party’s Bodrum office on Aug. 30 before speaking to members of the press, confirming his transfer to the main opposition party.

“CHP is Turkey’s oldest party, as well as the party that would never disappear. So we notified CHP that we want to continue to serve our people at CHP, and the provincial office accepted our offer. I thank them,” Kocadon said, while expressing his hope that the change would bring good both to Bodrum and to the whole country.

CHP provincial head Recai Seymen said Kocadon had applied to join and completed all membership requirements.

Kocadon was handed his CHP pin during a brief ceremony outside the CHP office, before posing for pictures with fellow CHP members.

Three other town mayors of Bodrum province, Halil İbrahim Kaynar, Mehmet Tire and İsmail Altındağ, also resigned from the DP in the days following Kocadon’s resignation.
