Two Turkish soldiers were killed during a clash with the outlawed PKK militants in the southeastern province of Şırnak on May 5, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on May 6.
The statement added that air-supported operations in the area were ongoing.
On May 4, three Turkish soldiers were killed and one was wounded when PKK militants in northern Iraq launched mortar fire into Turkey’s southeastern province of Hakkari.
The Turkish army had responded with aerial bombardments and artillery fire.
“Three of our brothers in arms died as martyrs after mortar fire from northern Iraq by terrorists,” the ministry said, in reference to the PKK.
The Defense Ministry also said that another Turkish soldier had been killed on May 4 in northern Syria by the YPG, the Syrian arm of the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and and the EU.
