According to a May 14 story by Anadolu Agency, Serdar Karaömeroğlu in the Küçükköy district of the Black Sea province of Rize said he decided to build the precarious-looking house after cutting four meters from the top of the tree with his cousin.

His cousin, Soner Karaömeroğlu, claimed that it would not be possible to build a house on the trunk, promising to build its roof if his cousin managed to do it.

“I went to the industrial zone and bought an iron clamp to hold the trunk. Then, I put a two-and-a-half- meter wide iron floor on it, which I used as a foundation to build the wooden house,” he said.

“When I completed the first story, I continued onto the second one, as it had already become a matter of spite with my cousin,” Karaömeroğlu (L) continued.

According to the unconventional designer, his cousin failed to keep his promise of building the roof. “He was unable to do it, so I did it myself.”

Karaömeroğlu’s spite house, which he named “Tree-shanty Mansion,” is supported by steel cables to withstand the area’s strong winds. In three months, he completed the structure, which has a 10-square-meter space on each floor, for a total cost of 2,500 Turkish Liras ($950)
