Turks surpass EU citizens in using mobile Internet

Some 59 percent of mobile phone subscribers use a 3G connection in Turkey, almost double the 30 percent rate in Europe, Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yıldırım has said.

The total number of 3G subscribers in Turkey has surpassed 40 million, according to the latest data from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), he said, and the total number of phone subscribers has hit 67.2 million.

Yıldırım said Turkey has retained its top place in Europe with 299 minutes of average monthly mobile phone conversation in the third quarter of the year. He also said there was an increase in calls from abroad for fixed-line telecommunication services.
