Seasonal excavations completed in ancient Elaiussa Sebaste
The 26th seasonal excavations in the ancient city of Elaiussa Sebaste have been completed.
The excavations were initially decided to be headed by Professor Annalisa Polosa from Rome’s La Sapienza University, but due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Asena Kızılarslanoğlu from Turkey’s Kastamonu University took the helm.
The excavations conducted by the Turkish team throughout the season ended with plans over the cleaning and landscaping of the ancient city.
Kızılarslanoğlu told journalists that after this year’s excavations, the team had started restoration and conservation works.
She added that the basilica structure, the grand bath and the northern necropolis vacation were on the verge of completion and would most likely be open to visitors in 2021.
