Priest’s tombstone found in Amasya
A tombstone, which is believed to have belonged to a priest, has been found in the archaeological excavations conducted at Venk Ayazma (holy spring) in the northern province of Amasya. (DHA Photo)
The tombstone, which is believed to have been built in the 15th century, reads ‘10th Great Priest Theodosius’ in Greek letters.
Depicting the motifs of a lamp, a cypress tree, priest’s staff, a priest’s cap and flowers, were placed at the entrance of the holy spring.
