Local media reported on Sept. 14 that the beggar had 12,000 Turkish Liras worth in foreign currency. The currencies not only included United States dollars and euros, but also Iranian rials, India rupees, Lebanese pounds, Libyan dinars, Swedish kronas and even Nepalese rupees.
The collection also included almost all currencies from the Gulf states. According to media reports, some currencies could not even be found at foreign exchange bureaus in Istanbul.
Municipal officials seized and converted the money into liras as per law, while releasing the Azeri citizen. Sabiha Gökçen is one of the busiest airports in Turkey.
