Turkey's Lake Eğirdir shrinking at alarming rate

“The main cause of this is the excessive intake of water [from the lake]. The main reason the lake has lost 1.5-2 meters is due to water being drained away at [irrigation] wells in the Karaot position. The actual reason the lake is drying is not due to evaporation. “As the water level is shrinking, the problem of pollution, which has been prevalent at the lake, is becoming more serious,” said the academic, adding that the water risks failing to meet drinking water quality standards.
