Film festival to feature ‘Terraferma’
ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily NewsThe winner of the 2011 Venice Special Jury Prize, “Terraferma” by Emanuele Crialese, will be screened at 7 p.m. at Fitaş 1 today. Far from the mainland, off of Sicily, the small island of Linosa houses a small fishing community, and the lives of a small family are disrupted by the arrival of illegal immigrants from Ethiopia.
At the risk of imprisonment, the immigrants are given shelter by one of the families. Italy’s entry for the Oscars, “Terraferma” is not only about immigration but also moral choices and standing up to traditional societies.
