As part of his two-day private visit to Turkey, Austrian President Heinz Fischer visited the Temple of Apollo and the ancient city of Milet in the Aegean province of Aydın’s Didim district over the weekend.

Fischer and his wife, Margit Fischer, were welcomed in Didim by Aydın Governor Kerem Al, Gendarmerie Commander Bülent Bulut, Aydın Mayor Mümn Kamacı and Aydın Police Chief Ahmet Turan Temel.
Visiting the Temple of Apollo, Fischer was given information about the temple from the German Archaeology Institute vice director Dr. Martin Bachmann.

Fischer and his wife then visited the Milet Museum and signed the Book of Honor in the museum. The guest president showed great attention to a tortoise that he saw in the garden of the museum, and his wife took photos of the two of them.

The couple finished their Didim visit at the ancient Milet, before going on to İzmir’s Selçuk town. There they listened to a concert by the Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra at the Celcius Library in Ephesus.
