‘Türkiye Park’ inaugurated in El Salvador’s capital featuring Atatürk bust
ISTANBUL
A new park dedicated to Türkiye was officially inaugurated in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, featuring a bust of modern Türkiye founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
Located in the Maquilishuat district, the dedicated park was opened during a ceremony attended by Turkish diplomats, Salvadoran officials and local residents.
The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the national anthems of both countries.
Türkiye’s Ambassador to El Salvador, Gül Büyükerşen, thanked Salvadoran officials and Abdullah Eren, head of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), for their support in realizing the project.
In her remarks, Büyükerşen highlighted Atatürk’s reforms, particularly in advancing women’s rights, including the adoption of the civil code in 1926 and women’s suffrage in the 1930s.
Emphasizing Atatürk’s principle of “Peace at home, peace in the world,” she noted that Türkiye currently maintains 20 diplomatic missions across Latin America and the Caribbean, adding that El Salvador has now joined the list of countries hosting Atatürk monuments.
