A police officer in Istanbul raped a detained woman who had been taken to a police station after an identity check in an Istanbul night club, daily Vatan reported today.

The woman, P. A., who told the police that her name was Özlem A. during the ID check, was taken to a police station following her suspicious behavior. P.A. was detained and transported to Taksim police station after confessing that her passport had been stolen one year ago and that she had then bought a fake ID.

The deputy police chief in Taksim, N. K., reportedly raped the woman in the station twice.

The incident was revealed after the woman filed a complaint.

The policeman was arrested and faces 18 years in prison on claims of  "sexual assult," after prosecutors completed an investigation.
