ANKARA – Demirören News Agency

One Turkish soldier was killed and four others injured on Sept. 29 after the PKK militants detonated an improvised bomb in northern Iraq, the Turkish military has announced.

The injured soldiers were brought back to Turkey in a helicopter.

The operations against the illegal PKK were reported to be ongoing.

The PKK has had its main headquarters and training camps in northern Iraq since the early 1980s. The Turkish military has recently stepped up its mobilization in the region.

Meanwhile, the Turkish army announced on Sept. 29 that its airstrikes “neutralized” six armed PKK militants in northern Iraq.

Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply that the militants in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.
