Plans for a giant rally ground to be built on on a sea enbankment in Istanbul have been revealed, Fatma Aksu of daily Hürriyet has reported.

The rally ground is slated to be built on the coastline between the Yenikapı and Samatya neighborhoods in Fatih.

The main staging area would be able to hold 800,000 people and would cover an area of 270,000 square meters. Authorities have said they would be "building a rally and staging area that Istanbul needs and which would be close to the city center and would be accessible by various means of transport."

The total area of the rally ground was reported to be 715,000 square meters, including 135,000 square meters for parking.

The planned rally ground would be on the southern shore of Fatih district and to the west of the Yenikapı seabus docks. Kennedy Avenue, which currently follows the shore, would border the rally ground.
