Istanbul gets ready for World Halal Summit, Halal Expo

ISTANBUL

The World Halal Summit Istanbul (WHSI) and the 5th Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Halal Expo are set to begin on Nov. 23 in Istanbul, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Ministers and representatives from 57 countries will attend the summit and expo, which will take place under the auspices of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

More than 7,500 people and 150 top brands, institutions and organizations active in halal food, Islamic tourism, Islamic finance, halal chemistry, cosmetics, medicine and pharmacy, are also expected to attend from over 80 countries.

The heads of state of a number of countries including Somalia, Pakistan and Malaysia, as well as representatives of international organizations such as the OIC, the Islamic Development Bank and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy are also expected to attend to summit.

Conferences and workshops at the expo include events on “Islamic Finance,” “the Halal Food Industry,” “Islamic Tourism,” “Hajj and Umrah,” “Halal Medicine, Pharma and Chemistry,” and “Islamic Life and Halal Textile.”

The summit and expo are preparing to host leading players in the halal industry in collaboration with the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade and the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries and “Discover Events,” according to the WHSI’s website.

Both programs will take place at the Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Center in Istanbul and will continue through Nov. 25.
