12 injured in Turkey train accident

Five passengers and seven personnel were injured in a train crash in the central Anatolian province of Niğde today.

Turkey's railroad authority said a freight train crashed into a passenger train in Niğde's Ulukışla district at around 5:10 a.m.

A passenger train was waiting on the tracks at the station in Ulukışla when a freighter crashed into the passenger cars from behind. Five passengers in train and seven personnel in ther freighter were injured. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the site of the accident and the injured were taken to hospitals in Ulukışla and Niğde city center.

Officials said the freight train failed to stop at Ulukışla entrance, despite being ordered to do so, and entered tracks belonging to the stationary passenger train.
