Woman hit by military vehicle dies in Turkey’s southeast

A woman was hit by an armored military vehicle and died on April 27, prompting protests in the restless southeastern province of Diyarbakır. The police used rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons to disperse the furious crowd who had gathered to protest the woman’s death. 

The incident took place in the Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır at around 1:15 p.m., when Hatun Elhuman, 55, who was trying to cross the street, was hit by the armored military vehicle. 

The protestors reportedly attacked the military vehicle involved in the accident with rocks and sticks. 

Special operations police officers were sent to the scene as reinforcements. 

The road that the incident took place on was closed by the police and an investigation into the incident was ongoing.
