Vessel struck by unidentified munition in Strait of Hormuz

A vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified munition on Sept. 13, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

No information is currently available on the condition of the crew or the extent of the damage, an online statement read.

The vessel’s potential effect on the surrounding environment also remains unknown.

An investigation is underway, the maritime authority said.

The UKMTO advised vessels to proceed with caution and report suspicious activity.

Traffic through the critical Strait of Hormuz remains well below levels seen before the start of the U.S.-Iran war this February.

This decline comes amid continued security risks and attacks on commercial vessels going through regional waters.
