The U.S. army sent a Frenchman, currently besieged by police in Toulouse after the killings of seven people, back to France after he was arrested in Afghanistan, an official said.

Afghan police detained the young man and then handed him over to the US army "who put him on the first plane headed to France," prosecutor Francois Molins told reporters.

Molins added that the suspect boasted of bringing "France to its knees," and that the suspect said he had always acted alone.

The suspect reportedly told Molins that he would surrender "late this evening."
