US ambassador to Turkey releases video to raise awareness of violence against women

ANKARA
U.S. Ambassador to Ankara John Bass released a video on Nov. 28 to show his and his country’s commitment to “say no to violence against women,” as part of a 16-day campaign launched against gender-based violence worldwide.

In the short video, released on the embassy’s official website, Bass says he and his country “stand up to violence against women” and are “committed to advancing gender equality.”

Bass said “violence prevents many from realizing their full potential” and prevents “countries from realizing their full potential.”

As part of the activism initiative that will end with the International Human Rights Day on Dec. 10, the embassy issued a statement: “In recognition of the 16 Days of Activism, on International Human Rights Day December 10, the State Department will highlight on social media the ways in which the United States and others have worked to confront this crime—in its many forms—and call on others to join us in ensuring this vital work continues.”
