Uğur Yücel’s film on screen in Berlin

Uğur Yücel’s film “Soğuk” (Cold) made its premiere last night at the Berlin Film Festival, hosting Uğur Yücel himself, as well as other Turkish actors such as Cenk Alibeyoğlu, A. Rıfat Şungar, Şebnem Bozoklu and Ezgi Mola.

Speaking before the premiere, actor Rıfat Şungar explained that the movie told the story of a character from Kars, which meant that the movie had to be shot in tough winter conditions. “We shot the movie in minus 28 degree temperatures, and it has reached minus 38 degrees in Kars in the past. We saw that people were living in very hard conditions,” he said.

Noting that this was his first time at the Berlinale, Şungar expressed his delight that he was attending the Berlinale, where people only spoke about cinema hear.

Turkish Ambassador in Berlin Huseyin Avni Karslıoğlu and his wife, Gamze Karslıoğlu, as well as the Turkish Consul General in Berlin Ahmet Basar Şen and his wife, Birgit Sen, also attended the event.

The 63rd Berlinale is including a total of four Turkish films. Köken Ergun’s “Aşure” will be included in the short movie section, Aslı Özge’s “Hayatboyu” (Lifelong) and Uğur Yücel’s “Soğuk” (Cold) will be screened in the “Panorama” section, while Reha Erdem’s “Jin” will be screened in the “Generation” section of the festival.
