Two soldiers were killed Oct. 11 in the eastern province of Erzurum during operations against “the separatist terrorist organization,” a term generally used for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Gendarmerie forces clashed with a group of PKK members in an area between the Şenkaya district of Erzurum and Göle district of the Ardahan province. Two soldiers were killed in the fire, according to information from the Erzurum Governor’s Office.

A number of gendarmerie special-forces were deployed to the area as clashes continued between the members of the PKK and security forces.
