Two soldiers die in anti-terror operations

One soldier has been killed in clashes between Turkish security forces and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Nusaybin district of the southeastern Mardin province while a second soldier has died a week after falling off a cliff during anti-terror operations in the northeastern province of Kars.A soldier, identified as infantry specialized Sgt. Osman Vurgun, was hit by PKK fire in anti-terror operations in Nusaybin on May 16. He was swiftly brought to Nusaybin State Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his wounds.
Specialized Sgt. Kazım Ay also succumbed to his injuries, a week after falling off a cliff and sustaining serious wounds during anti-terror operations in Kars province. Ay was receiving medical treatment at the Mareşal Çakmak Military Hospital in eastern Erzurum province.
Meanwhile, the Mardin Governor’s Office released an official statement, stating that a total 374 PKK militants had been killed that 925 improvised explosive devices had been destroyed, that 370 barricades had been removed and that a total of 31 trenches had been filled since operations started on March 14.
A total 60 security officials have also been killed during the operations, the governor’s office said, adding that counterterrorism efforts were set to continue “with determination.”
