One soldier and one police officer were killed on Feb. 9 during operations conducted against outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the Cizre district of the southeastern Şırnak province.

Meanwhile, one police officer and one soldier succumbed to their injuries sustained eight days ago in attacks by the PKK in the southeastern provinces of Şırnak and Diyarbakır.

The police officer, 24-year-old Tayfun Yüce, was wounded on Feb. 1 after PKK militants detonated an improvised explosive device during the passing of an armored police vehicle in the Ataken neighborhood of Şırnak’s İdil district.

Yüce was taken to the Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) in Istanbul for treatment but he succumbed to his injuries early on Feb. 9.

Yüce’s funeral will take place in his home Ceyhan district in the southern province of Adana.
