ISTANBUL

Türkiye’s crude steel production increased by 3.4 percent year-on-year in February, reaching 3 million tons, according to data from the Turkish Steel Producers’ Association (TÇÜD).

In the first two months of the year, output rose 4.7 percent to 6.4 million tons.

Final product consumption also expanded, climbing 11.3 percent annually to 3.2 million tons in February. For the January–February period, consumption was up 4.1 percent at 6.7 million tons.

Steel product exports in February grew 8.6 percent in volume to 1.1 million tons compared with the same month of 2025, but declined 9.2 percent in value to $714.8 million. Over the first two months of the year, exports fell 13.5 percent in volume to 2 million tons and 15.2 percent in value to $1.3 billion compared with the same period last year.

TÇÜD Secretary General Veysel Yayan pointed to weakening demand from the European Union, noting rising concerns ahead of new safeguard measures expected to take effect on July 1.

He said exports to the EU dropped 36 percent in the first two months to around 541,500 tons. Yayan emphasized, however, that Türkiye’s deeper integration into the EU’s “Made in Europe” policy, as part of efforts to restructure supply security, could create opportunities for Turkish industry.

He also highlighted sharp declines in Türkiye’s second-largest export market, the Middle East, where geopolitical risks and economic slowdown led to a dramatic fall in demand. Exports to the region plunged 38 percent to 278,700 tons.
