Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli has claimed Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s dreams of becoming president went up in smoke.

“We cannot take this [corruption] operation lightly, we cannot let it go,” Bahçeli told his supporters during a rally in Manisa. “Whether he has come [to power] by democracy or a coup, or whether he is a dictator; it is impossible for him to remain in power.”

Bahçeli said Erdoğan will not be able to become president, a position he is believed to aspire. “You cannot go up to Çankaya [the presidential location]. You will run out of breath midway there,” he said. “Presidency is just a dream for you.”
