Turkish PM to head to Buenos Aires on day of 2020 Olympics host declaration

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will pay a visit to the Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires on Sept. 7, the day when the host of 2020 Olympic Games will be announced, daily Radikal has reported.

Turkey is among the candidate countries, along with Madrid and Tokyo, and is known to be very keen to bring the Olympics to Istanbul.

After attending the G20 Summit in St. Petersburg through Sept. 4-6, Erdoğan will depart for Buenos Aires. During his visit, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will officially declare the host country of 2020 Olympics.

Meanwhile, after participating in a key meeting of the National Security Council (MGK) on Aug. 20, Erdoğan will be joining hand-over ceremonies of Gendarmerie Forces and Air Forces Aug. 22, and Naval Forces and Land Forces on Aug. 23.
