Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputy Hasip Kaplan is a “necrophile,” Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said after the pro-Kurdish MP described the army member who gave the order for the botched Uludere raid as "an animal.”

"Those who ask 'Which animal gave that order?' or those who dance around in joy after Uludere, those who tell people to not come down from the mountains; those people are necrophiles," the prime minister was quoted as saying today by daily Hürriyet. "They love the dead."

Kaplan had previously asked, "Which animal gave that order?" in Parliament following a recent statement by the interior minister that suggested army officers were responsible for giving the order on Uludere.

Kaplan's comment stirred the Parliament and caused a fierce backlash. The deputy was warned not to insult anyone during his speech, to which he responded by changing his statement to "An animal could not have given that order.”
